What is an end seal and how does it work?
End seals are used in chamber doctor blade systems in flexographic printing and coating decks. Their purpose is to seal the otherwise open outer ends of the chamber to make sure the printing ink or coating stays inside the chamber. As the end seals, also referred to as gaskets or side seals, are in contact with the rotating anilox roller, they are also subject to mechanical stress.
For a reliable sealing effect, the correct shape and the right material are of fundamental importance. The correct shape ensures an exact fit into the chamber geometry. Only with a suitable material, the end seal will show the necessary dimensional stability and resistance to the ink type and friction from the anilox roller.
